Word spread, and Musk\u2019s team was made aware that Wisconsin law prohibits payments for voter turnout. Under section 12.11(1m)(a)(2), it\u2019s a crime to offer \u201canything of value\u201d to \u201cany elector\u201d to induce them to \u201cvote or refrain from voting.\u201d As a result, Elon Musk deleted a tweet announcing plans to visit Wisconsin on Sunday and hand out $1 million checks to voters\u2014just two days before a critical state Supreme Court election.
