The motion to declare independence was actually passed on July 2, 1776, and on that same day John Adams wrote a letter including the language in the screenshots. (After passage of the motion to declare independence there was some tweaking made to the language in the document, and the final edit was adopted on July 4. So our actual Independence Day is July 2. When you celebrate on July 4th you are actually celebrating the draft of the document finally being done, something about which any author or lawyer will tell you is something to celebrate, but it isn’t what most people think we are celebrating.οΏΌ) οΏΌ
