Reports and videos show ICE agents asking American citizens whether they’ve “learned their lesson over the last few days” are deeply troubling. Language like this implies intent and raises serious questions about premeditation and mindset on the scene. From a law enforcement and use-of-force perspective, even suggesting that someone should “learn their lesson” in the context of a violent incident is inappropriate and professionally indefensible. Federal officers and other public safety personnel are trained to de-escalate and act with clear operational purpose.
