Scott Turner, born February 26, 1972, in Richardson, Texas, is an American businessman, motivational speaker, politician, and former professional football player. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communications from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he attended on a full academic and athletic scholarship.
Turner’s professional football career spanned nine seasons in the NFL, playing as a defensive back for the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and Denver Broncos. After retiring from football, he transitioned into politics and public service. From 2013 to 2017, Turner served as a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives for the 33rd District, which includes parts of Collin County and all of Rockwall County.
During President Donald Trump’s first term, Turner was appointed as the executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council, focusing on economic development in distressed communities. In November 2024, President-elect Trump nominated Turner to serve as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). If confirmed, Turner would be the first Black person appointed to the Republican’s Cabinet in this administration.
Turner is married to Robin Turner, a businesswoman, and they have a son, Solomon, who is a student-athlete at Baylor University.
