Kashyap Pramod “Kash” Patel, born February 25, 1980, in Garden City, New York, is an American attorney and former government official. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond and a Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law. Patel began his career as a public defender and later served as a federal prosecutor specializing in national security cases. He also acted as a legal liaison to the United States Armed Forces.
During the Trump administration, Patel held several key positions, including senior aide to Congressman Devin Nunes, where he played a significant role in challenging investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election. He also served on the National Security Council and as Chief of Staff to the Acting Secretary of Defense.
On November 30, 2024, President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Patel as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, succeeding Christopher A. Wray. This nomination reflects Trump’s aim to appoint loyalists to key positions within his administration.
Patel’s nomination has sparked controversy due to his perceived loyalty to Trump and his involvement in efforts to discredit investigations into the former president. Critics express concerns about potential politicization of the FBI under his leadership. The nomination requires Senate confirmation, where it is expected to face rigorous scrutiny.
In addition to his government service, Patel has authored children’s books promoting pro-Trump narratives and has been involved in media ventures aligned with conservative viewpoints.
Patel’s career trajectory and close association with Trump have made him a prominent and polarizing figure in American politics.
