Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, born August 25, 1976, in Carmel, New York, is an American physician specializing in family and emergency medicine. She is the daughter of Christian Jordanian immigrants and was raised in Umatilla, Florida, after her family relocated there in 1982. Nesheiwat earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of South Florida and completed her medical degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She furthered her training with a residency in family medicine at the University of Arkansas.
Professionally, Nesheiwat has served as a physician at Washington Regional Medical Center and Northwest Medical Hospital. She is currently the Medical Director at CityMD, a network of urgent care centers in New York and New Jersey. In addition to her clinical roles, she is recognized as a medical news contributor, providing expert commentary on health-related issues for various media outlets, including Fox News, CBS, NBC, and Good Morning America.
On November 22, 2024, President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Dr. Nesheiwat for the position of Surgeon General of the United States. In this role, she would serve as the nation’s leading spokesperson on matters of public health. Her nomination is pending Senate confirmation.
Dr. Nesheiwat’s family includes notable figures such as her sister, Julia Nesheiwat, who has served as a U.S. government official, and her sister, Jaclyn Stapp, a philanthropist and wife of musician Scott Stapp.
