Jamieson Lee Greer is an American attorney and Air Force veteran, recently nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as the United States Trade Representative.

Early Life and Education

Greer graduated from Paradise High School in Paradise, California, in 1998. He then served as a missionary in Brussels for two years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Brigham Young University. Greer pursued master’s degrees from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and Sciences Po, followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Military Service

From 2008 to 2012, Greer served as an officer in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps, with assignments in Kansas, Turkey, and Iraq, where he was chief of military justice.

Legal Career

After his military service, Greer joined Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, specializing in trade law and representing clients like U.S. Steel in cases against China. He later became a partner in international trade at King & Spalding.

Government Service

In 2017, Greer was appointed chief of staff to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, serving until 2020. During this period, he was instrumental in implementing tariffs on China and renegotiating NAFTA to the USMCA.

Nomination as U.S. Trade Representative

In November 2024, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Greer as the U.S. Trade Representative. This nomination aligns with Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on countries like Mexico, Canada, and China, aiming to protect U.S. industries and address trade imbalances.

Personal Life

Greer is a member of the Republican Party and has been involved in various trade negotiations and policy implementations throughout his career.
