Brooke Leslie Rollins, born April 10, 1972, in Glen Rose, Texas, is an American attorney and Republican politician. She earned a Bachelor of Science in agricultural development from Texas A&M University in 1994 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law.
Rollins began her career at Hughes & Luce, LLP in Dallas and served as deputy general counsel, ethics advisor, and policy director to Texas Governor Rick Perry. From 2003 to 2018, she was president and CEO of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, significantly expanding the organization’s staff.
In 2018, Rollins joined the Trump administration as assistant to the president for intergovernmental and technology initiatives within the Office of American Innovation. She later served as acting director of the United States Domestic Policy Council, where she played a key role in the passage of the First Step Act, aimed at reforming the nation’s prison system and reducing recidivism.
After the 2020 election, Rollins co-founded the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) in 2021, serving as its president and CEO to promote Trump’s policy agenda.
On November 23, 2024, President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Rollins as Secretary of Agriculture. If confirmed, she will lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture, overseeing farming, forestry, food quality, and nutrition programs.
Rollins’ nomination has received mixed reactions due to her limited direct experience in agriculture. However, her background in agricultural development and policy leadership positions her to address the challenges facing American agriculture.
