Oregon Governor Tina Kotek announced that hundreds of Oregon and California National Guard members remain in ‘limbo’ following a federal court decision in favor of former President Donald Trump. At a press conference, Kotek expressed her frustration over the lack of clarity from the Trump administration regarding the mission or timeline for the guardโs presence. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently rejected a restraining order on troop deployment to Portland, but another temporary order remains, preventing immediate arrival of troops. Kotek has repeatedly called on the Trump administration to clarify the Guardโs purpose and urged that all Guard members be sent home. She emphasized that the intervention is unnecessary, noting that the deployed citizen soldiers have been away from families and jobs for weeks without clear direction. Oregon Democrats have joined Kotek in opposing the deployment. The uncertainty leaves Guard members stationed at Camp Rilea and Camp Withycombe without clear instructions, as political and legal battles over their deployment continue in Oregon.
