MAGA keeps saying Trump is “saving taxpayers money” and “paying down the national debt.” If that were true, why did the U.S. national debt just surpass $38 trillion, a record high in American history? According to the U.S. Treasury and multiple financial reports, the government has added about $1 trillion in only two months, marking the fastest non-pandemic accumulation of debt ever recorded.

The debt climbed from roughly $37 trillion in August 2025 to over $38 trillion by October 2025, meaning the United States is now adding roughly $500 billion per month, or $23 billion per day, more than $114,000 per American household.

At the same time, Trump has been firing federal employees and eliminating essential programs that directly serve the American people, claiming it’s about efficiency and “saving money.” Yet the data shows the opposite: the federal deficit for fiscal year 2025 was about $1.8 trillion, and total debt rose by more than $2.1 trillion in just twelve months.

So where are the so-called “savings”? The truth is, there are none. Despite the rhetoric, the government is spending more and borrowing faster than at any point in U.S. history, even as critical public services are gutted and oversight is weakened.
