MAGA is trying to justify the Portland shooting by arguing that the people drove off after being shot, and that this somehow explains why the agents fled the scene. At the same time, federal agents are claiming the victims were “gang members” who attempted to run them over with a car. So the response to an alleged threat posed by the vehicle was to shoot both the driver and the passenger? Why was the passenger shot if the car was the alleged weapon? Was the passenger somehow driving the vehicle too?
Then we’re expected to believe that once the shooting happened (and the victims were conveniently labeled “gang members”) the agents’ responsibility simply ended. They shot them, did not pursue the vehicle, and let these supposed “dangerous gang members” go. As if it’s “job done” the moment bullets are fired. That is not how law enforcement works at any level.
Even if the people drove off after being shot, that still does not explain or justify why there were no federal agents at the scene afterward. When officers use deadly force, their obligations do not depend on whether the injured person stays put. Once the immediate threat has ended, officers are required to request medical assistance, notify local law enforcement, preserve the scene, and remain available for investigation. None of those duties disappear because the wounded person leaves.
In fact, someone driving away after being shot would normally trigger more action, not less. Officers would be expected to immediately alert dispatch that shots were fired, provide a vehicle description, coordinate with local police and EMS, and document exactly where the shooting occurred. Simply leaving without doing any of that is not standard practice, it’s a serious deviation.
