I just read something in this book that triggered a memory for me: in my final year at university, as an older returning student (I was 29 at the time) I asked my logic professor if he would write me a letter of recommendation for law school. He asked me to where I was applying and I said Stanford, Yale, and a bunch of safe schools. He said, and I will never forget this, “Don’t get your hopes up.” I had a 3.98 grade average, had scored in the 99th percentile on the LSAT, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and was graduating Summa. All while working full-time, going to university full-time, and being a full-time single parent. And yet he said that to me. It actually galls me all over again as I write this. Well guess what? (You know how this story ends. ;~) )
