Fired for defending science and speaking the truth. Dr. George Tidmarsh, head of the FDA’s drug division, says he was placed on administrative leave after questioning the legal basis of a new “rapid approval” program for certain drugs. A longtime industry veteran who joined the agency in July, Dr. Tidmarsh warned that the initiative risks injecting politics into what should be a strictly science-based review process. When experts raising red flags are silenced instead of heard, the public loses trust and patients lose protection. Science should lead, not politics.
