A major win. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has returned control of the California National Guard to Gavin Newsom, lifting a stay and reinstating a lower court order that required Trump to return roughly 300 Guard members to state service. Following the ruling, Trump said he would abandon efforts to deploy the National Guard in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon. The decision comes on the heels of last week’s Supreme Court of the United States ruling that Trump could not deploy troops in the Chicago area over the objections of Illinois officials.
