Comey Indictment: Ex-Trump Lawyer Says It’s a Distraction

Ty Cobb, a former White House lawyer for Donald Trump, said that Trump is using the indictment of former FBI director James Comey as part of a broader effort to “rewrite history” and conceal his own criminal actions. Cobb described Trump’s moves as “wholly unconstitutional [and] authoritarian,” and said they are meant to distract from Trump’s own record, including inciting an insurrection, refusing to transfer power, and mishandling classified documents.

Cobb doubted that Comey would be convicted, calling the case against him “fatally flawed” and likely to collapse before trial. He criticized Trump’s appointment of inexperienced aides to pursue the case and said the justice department under Trump is targeting individuals for political reasons, abandoning even-handedness.

Cobb concluded that Trump’s actions are an attempt to ensure future generations do not know about his criminal conduct, and warned that Trump’s political opponents are in real danger.
