Another federal judge has dealt Trump a legal setback, over the government’s treatment of migrant children. The court blocked his administration from quietly flying hundreds of Guatemalan kids out of the country under the pretense of “family reunification.” The ruling pointed out that officials repeatedly claimed parents had asked for their children to be returned, but in reality many families had never made such a request at all. The judge said their false statements “crumbled like a house of cards” when presented in court. The judge described how children were suddenly taken from their shelters in the middle of the night, placed on buses, and driven to airports without any clear justification. The case raises a disturbing question: if these deportations weren’t actually requested by the families, what exactly did Trump intend to do with all these children once they were removed from U.S. soil?
