Our parks need more staff! We’ve seen the recent viral video from the Hidden Lake Trail in North Cascades National Park which shows a growing problem: overgrown trails, overflowing restrooms, and delayed maintenance are quickly becoming the norm under deep federal budget cuts.
Since Trump took office in January, the National Park Service has lost roughly a quarter of its permanent staff and the administration is now pushing to slash the agency’s budget by nearly a third. The strain is so severe that archaeologists are working ticket booths, ecologists are covering shifts at visitor centers, and park superintendents are scrubbing toilets just to keep things running.
