Michael Van Landingham, a former CIA analyst involved in drafting the 2017 intelligence report on Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election, has publicly defended the assessment’s conclusions. In an interview with PBS NewsHour, Van Landingham said there was no political pressure to produce a predetermined outcome. He emphasized that the findings were grounded in reliable intelligence and open-source materials, including coverage from Russian state media and public statements from officials. The report concluded that Russia sought to damage Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and favored Donald Trump’s election.
