A win! A federal appeals court struck down Trump’s executive order aimed at limiting birthright citizenship, ruling that it violated the U.S. Constitution. The decision upheld a lower court’s nationwide injunction and moves the contentious issue closer to potential review by the Supreme Court.

In a 48-page decision, a majority of judges on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals determined that Trump’s order conflicted with the clear text of the 14th Amendment, which guarantees citizenship to “all persons born in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof.”
