A former Justice Department lawyer has accused the Trump administration of “thumbing its nose at the courts,” saying his colleagues were being forced to choose between upholding the law and advancing the Trump’s agenda.
In an interview with The NYT, Erez Reuveni, who filed a detailed whistleblower complaint to the Senate last month, described a growing sense of alarm as he worked to defend the administration’s aggressive deportation policies. Reuveni said he is willing to testify before Congress or in court about what he calls a deliberate effort by the administration to ignore judicial rulings and the due process rights of hundreds of migrants.
Reuveni, speaking publicly for the first time, was fired in April after defending the administration’s mistaken deportation of a man in Maryland, a case in which he refused to follow a superior’s directive.
