We took down our last post because it was misunderstood. We should have done a better job explaining and we’re sorry we didn’t.

Our intention was to highlight a false narrative being pushed by the Trump administration: that immigrants take from the system without contributing. That simply isn’t true. The point we were trying to make is that immigrants pay billions into Social Security and will never see a penny of it.

Here’s what many people don’t realize:
Millions of immigrants file taxes using ITINs (Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers) because they aren’t eligible for Social Security numbers. They still pay payroll and income taxes, including Social Security and Medicare, even though they’re ineligible for the benefits those taxes support.

In 2024 alone, immigrants contributed an estimated $24 billion to Social Security, from people who will never receive benefits in return.
