As we’ve reported before, ICE facilities are rife with human rights violations. Now, the Department of Homeland Security is trying to hide them, formally requiring members of Congress and their staff to give seven days’ notice before visiting immigration detention centers. Any shorter timeline must be approved by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. If there’s nothing to hide, why hide? DHS doesn’t make laws and it’s laughable they think they have that kind of power. These rules aren’t legally binding or enforceable. Congress needs to show up anyway.
