The Supreme Court just made a major decision that limits how much power federal judges have to block harmful government policies.

In a 6–3 ruling, the Court said that lower courts can no longer issue nationwide injunctions, meaning they can’t stop a federal law or executive order from taking effect across the entire country unless it directly affects the people who sued.

This came from a case about Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants. While the Court didn’t rule on whether that policy is legal, it said the courts that blocked it went too far by applying the ban nationwide.
