Well, this isn’t going to be good. Trump nominated Paul Ingrassia to lead the Office of Special Counsel, an independent agency meant to protect whistle-blowers and enforce ethics laws in the federal government.

Ingrassia, 30, is a former far-right podcast host who now works as the White House liaison to the Department of Homeland Security. Back in 2020, as Trump tried to overturn the election results, Ingrassia’s podcast account posted: “Time for @realDonaldTrump to declare martial law and secure his re-election.”

The Office of Special Counsel has had a rocky relationship with Trump. During his first term, it found that 13 of his senior aides illegally campaigned for his re-election while in office, violating the Hatch Act. Trump wasn’t pleased.

During his second term, the chaos continued. In February, Trump fired the head of the office, Hampton Dellinger. Dellinger sued to keep his job and was briefly reinstated by a court. While back in office, he opened an investigation into Trump’s mass firing of federal employees. But in March, an appeals court ruled in Trump’s favor, and Dellinger was removed again. The investigation was dropped in April.

Now, Trump is replacing him with a loyalist who once supported martial law to overturn the 2020 election.
