The FTC’s new investigation into Media Matters is just the latest example of the Trump regime targeting its critics. Media Matters is a liberal watchdog group that published research showing ads for major brands appearing next to antisemitic and hateful content on X. That research sparked an advertiser exodus, and Elon Musk, now a close Trump adviser, sued them in retaliation. Now the FTC, led by a Trump appointee, is probing whether Media Matters “colluded” with advertisers. It’s a complete stretch. But more importantly, it’s a pattern: this administration has repeatedly used federal power to go after anyone who exposes them, criticizes them, or jeopardizes their allies’ bottom line.
