The Justice Department quietly invoked the Alien Enemies Act last month, granting Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents the power to conduct warrantless searches of people’s homes based solely on suspicion that they are “alien enemies.” Many Americans, however, have their own solutions when the government decides search warrants are optional. Without laws, society becomes lawless setting a dangerous precedent.
