The Justice Department has granted Elon Musk’s staffers access to one of its most sensitive immigration databases, raising serious concerns about privacy, abuse of power, and political retaliation. The system, known as the Executive Office for Immigration Review’s Courts and Appeals System, or ECAS, contains detailed personal information on millions of immigrants, both legal and undocumented. It includes names, addresses, immigration court testimony, law enforcement records, and full case histories. The Justice Department, ECAS is designed to support the entire life cycle of an immigration case by maintaining all related records in electronic format.
Now, Musk’s operatives have been granted permission to access it. The staffers include Adam Hoffman, Payton Rehling, Jon Koval, and Marko Elez. The question is simple: why does a billionaire’s handpicked team need access to the private records of millions of immigrants? This isn’t about government efficiency. It’s about surveillance, control, and intimidation.
