A message to the President of El Salvador:
Since our own President refuses to speak up, we hope this message will reach you.
We ask that you allow all those who were wrongfully deported to return safely to the United States and ensure they receive the due process they are entitled to. Decisions must come after due process—not before. No administration has the right to violate our Constitution.
Our country has a Constitution, and we urge you not to support actions that undermine it. The U.S. Supreme Court has made it clear—these individuals are entitled to due process, as affirmed in a unanimous 9–0 ruling. We respectfully ask that you honor the highest court in our land and the principles it defends.
Placing your bets on an administration that won by the second-smallest margin in U.S. history is a risky decision. Of course, that’s your choice—but understand that any disregard for our laws will be remembered when the balance of power shifts in this country. And it will shift.
Still, tonight you gave us a glimmer of hope. By allowing Senator Chris Van Hollen to meet with Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia in San Salvador, you signaled that perhaps you are open to doing the right thing. For that, we thank you.
But let us be clear: the Constitution, our courts, and the rule of law must be respected. Claiming you’re holding them because Trump is funding you with American taxpayer dollars is not a valid justification.
The world is watching—not just America.
