The acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service plans to resign following the agency’s data-sharing agreement with the Department of Homeland Security, which supports the Trump administration’s efforts to deport undocumented immigrants. Melanie Krause is the third agency leader to step down this year, and several other top officials are expected to follow. These are not voluntary departures—public servants across the government are being forced out for resisting illegal or unethical directives. The data-sharing agreement violates Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code. Rather than comply, these officials are standing up for what is right and are facing forced resignations as a result.
