Hurricane Milton has reached Category 5

At 10:55 AM CDT on October 7, 2024,

the National Hurricane Center reported that Hurricane Milton has intensified into a Category 5 hurricane. Data from an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicates that Milton’s maximum sustained winds have reached 160 mph (250 km/h) with higher gusts, and the minimum central pressure has decreased to 925 mb (27.31 inches). The hurricane is currently located at 21.7N, 91.6W, approximately 125 miles (200 km) west-northwest of Progreso, Mexico, and about 715 miles (1150 km) southwest of Tampa, Florida. Milton is moving east-southeast at a speed of 9 mph (15 km/h).
